Should You Use Vitamin C Serum Every Day?

You can use vitamin C every day, and you will certainly reap wonderful benefits from doing so. However, it may not always be advised, depending on different, varying circumstances and situations.

Vitamin C serum is a great skincare product to use if you are someone who wants to achieve a glowy skin tone, even out dark patches, and brighten your skin. It is, however, not ideally suited to those with very sensitive skin.

This does not mean it can’t be used, but rather that it should be used occasionally at first, to see how your skin reacts to it. With this in mind, people with sensitive skin may not want to use vitamin C daily, at least at the beginning of their vitamin C journey.

If your skin is not sensitive or dry, then you can use vitamin C daily (provided you test it first to see if your skin reacts). You only need to use it once every day, as too much vitamin C can be detrimental to your skin.

Using it in the morning is advised so that you can reap the full benefits of glowy skin throughout the day. That being said, you should always wear an SPF on top of it, as serums like vitamin C can make your skin even more sensitive to the sun.

As well as this, you should always make sure to include vitamin C serum as part of a full skincare routine. It should not be used as a sole skincare product as you will need to apply it on freshly cleansed skin, and then follow it up with a moisturizer.

Can I apply Vitamin C serum overnight?

You certainly can choose to apply Vitamin C serum overnight if you wish. There is no reason why you can’t. However, it is worth bearing in mind that it may actually be more beneficial to apply it in the morning.

The reason for this is the benefits that vitamin C provides to the skin. Vitamin C serum can make your skin look bright and glowy.

Now, of course, at night, it will still look bright and glowy! But, don’t you want to show that glow off? Use your vitamin C serum first thing in the morning, after you have cleansed and toned, but before some SPF and a good moisturizer. Then you can look bright and glowy all day long!

However, it is worth bearing in mind that vitamin C serum is not as effective if it is prematurely exposed to light. This is one of the main reasons why people choose to apply it at night, as there is no natural light and UV to worry about.

That being said, it is worth noting that, provided you give your vitamin C serum adequate time to absorb into your skin before you go outside, there will not be an issue with the exposure to light.

With all of this in mind, if you want to apply your vitamin C serum at night, you definitely can. However, it is not necessary, and applying it in the morning may give you the most benefits.

Do you put moisturizer after vitamin C serum?

Yes! You should always use a moisturizer after you have applied your vitamin C serum. In fact, you should use a moisturizer that contains a high SPF, or even a separate facial SPF for extra protection. We recommend using at least SPF 30, but preferably an even higher SPF, such as 50.

The reason for this is that vitamin C serum can actually make your face more sensitive to UV rays from the sun. With this in mind, you need to ensure you are adequately protected from these harmful rays so that you do not get sun damage or sunburn.

As well as this, vitamin C serum (or indeed any products with added vitamin C) has the ability to dry out your skin, especially if you are prone to sensitivity and dryness anyway.

Using a hydrating moisturizer after you apply the vitamin C serum reduces the risk of your skin drying out and keeps it feeling smooth and hydrated, as well as helping it to look healthy and glowy.

How often should you put vitamin C on your face?

You should use vitamin C on your face as often as you feel like you need it. Of course, this is a relatively vague answer and may not be that helpful for you. So, with this in mind, let us explain what we mean a little further.

As we mentioned in an earlier section of the article, in general, vitamin C serum is safe for use daily and is recommended for use in the morning.

However, if you have particularly sensitive or dry skin, then you may well find that daily use of a vitamin C serum is just too much for your skin to bear. Instead, you may find that you want to use it every other day, or even just a handful of times a week.

There is no right or wrong routine with vitamin C serum, just as long as you don’t overdo it. For example, it is not recommended to use it more than once a day, so you should choose to use it either in the morning or evening.

Incorporate it into your daily routine and ensure you wear SPF after using it. Provided you follow this advice, your vitamin C serum will be an excellent addition to your daily or weekly skincare routine.

You should also bear in mind that vitamin C does not always have to come from serum. If you are unsure how your skin will react you could try a moisturizer or cleanser with added vitamin C first, as the amount of it and potency will be slightly less than in a serum. This is a good option if you have sensitive skin or if you are new to vitamin C as a skincare ingredient in general.
